The Fluency Five: Patrick Thompson

A core part of working here at Fluency is the opportunity to make a profound impact on virtually every aspect of our business—regardless of location. Spanning across 17 states—and counting—we’ve built quite the dynamic team and we want you to get to know them. That’s why we’ve created The Fluency Five, a five question blog series about what makes our employees special and what they love about working here.

Getting to know Patrick Thompson, Sales Operations Analyst

1. What brought you to Fluency?: I began working at Fluency in late May of 2022, as I was finishing my undergraduate degree at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. In university I majored in Finance, with a minor in Economics and a profile in Information Technology - mainly centered around Business Intelligence and Data Visualization/Analysis.

Near the end of my studies, I came to the realization that during my time at university, my goals and values had changed a lot. At one point in my life, I was incredibly driven to pursue a career in high finance, either in Wealth Management or Investment Banking - by the end of school, this was no longer what I was interested in. I still enjoyed finance and what I was learning, but dreamed of a way that I could use my skills in a startup environment, where on a daily basis, I could have conversations with all of my co-workers and work somewhere I could not only pursue a meaningful career, but a fulfilling life.Additionally, I wanted to improve my communication skills and understanding of digital technology, so I decided to switch paths post-graduation and started my professional career at Fluency, in Business Development as an Inside Sales Representative. I have since transitioned to a Sales Operations Analyst role. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been able to get involved with such an amazing organization right out of school.

2. What’s something interesting about what you do at Fluency?: Lately, I have been doing a lot of research on prospective clientele for Fluency. I love using the technological resources available to me to learn about companies, how they work and think of ways that Fluency can help them.

3. In your opinion, what is the most interesting thing about Fluency?: Working at Fluency has been life-changing for me. I feel incredibly lucky to have this be my first position and a place where I hope to grow, as both a professional and individual. The culture is unmatched, and at times, it feels almost too good to be true. Every person that works here is kind, dedicated to their job and is interesting as an individual. I feel incredibly accepted and valued here.

4. Can you tell us something personal about you?: In my free time, I love to make music. I play the guitar and sing and play a little bit of bass as well. I love to jam with other people, but love performing by myself at local bars in an open-mic setting.

5. What are you most looking forward to this year in your role and/or at the company?: Since I have joined last year as employee #48, our company has grown a lot and we now have about 75 employees. I am incredibly excited to see our company grow and to be a part of whatever is to come.

Bonus question. Feel free to add anything else that's worth mentioning about your journey at Fluency: In my time at Fluency, I have been able to address and manage my mental health and seek help. Through this experience, which at times was difficult, I have never felt anything but love, support and complete understanding from the people of Fluency. Fluency has taught me to be a professional, but most importantly, I feel as if it has taught me how to be a human. I love this company and working here.
